Not an exciting post, but thought I’d give my own personal opinion on the usage of the internet, and adult filters. This blog post applies to those who wish to bitch and complain about content on this site (and others), and state its bad for children and too easy for them to find.
The problem here is an age old one, and one that isn’t ever going to be fixed. You can personally complain, bitch, whine and stamp your feet until your last dying breathe, but the problem will never go. I agree, it is easy for people to find content such as this, amongst other adult related stuff. For example, my mother wanted to find some stuff out about loreal hair products. A quick google search and she somehow ended up at a site that quite resembled something a paedophile would like, except without the pictures (stories). A simple search for Loreal managed to bring that up.
I’ve searched for stuff in the past that has nothing to do with adult activites and have had results with adult sites, so I can certainly see how easy it is to get this content. That being said, we have never used an adult filter. There is entirely no point to them. We were supervised (to a degree) in our childhood with internet usage. Periodic checks, and browser history checks etc. Granted you can delete the history, but if your clever it can all be found still, and that is without installing any software.
Now, the filters I’ve personally had experience with are microsoft filters, RM filter and another i’ve forgotten the name of. The hardest one to get around was the Microsoft filter. It was pretty good at picking up proxy sites, unless the site title didn’t have the word ‘proxy’ in, you sometimes managed to get away with it. However, with my site being around for a good few years now, and the content on it, for at least the last 2 years, being adult orientated, it has not yet been stuck into any filters by default. This does make my own argument to get an adult filter (to those who moan), slightly null and void. This being said though, the filter will help prevent them from reaching other sites that may have been blocked. You can also add this site yourself to the filter, which would then make my argument right, once more.
I think my main issue is that people have come to this site by directly searching for something that is on here. Nothing in the key words being used shows anything that could have had an accidental visit. For example, searching for BME Pain Olympics will bring you here, as will BME, Pain Olympics, BME Pain etc. If you type in ‘big fluffy cheesecake’, you obviously wont come to this site, unless google decides to love that statement and stick it high in the results, then you might.
The problem I have with those who do complain, its not so much the fact they don’t have an adult filter, but its the fact they come here, watch the video, then complain about how bad it is and how its not good for children. In that case, get a filter on your computer, add this site to it, stop looking for this adult related content yourself, delete your adult history, then go sit in your quiet corner and pretend an adult world no longer exists. I have no time for you.
